Kochi Half Day
Giro turistico, Culturale, Shopping
On this half day tour, we will visit the highlights of Kochi.
Katsurahama is a scenic beach 30 minutes south of central Kochi by bus. Because of strong currents, swimming is prohibited at Katsurahama. A famous statue of Kochi's favourite son, Sakamoto Ryoma stands near the beach. Sakamoto was one of the architects of modern Japan. He was instrumental in negotiating an alliance between the Choshu and Satsuma clans, which helped to bring an end to Japan's feudal age in 1868.
Hirome market is in the centre of Kochi, near the castle. Opened in 1998, this very unique market was all about creating a tourist destination to spread knowledge of Kochi's food, friendliness and artistic culture. In fact, Hirome comes from the Japanese verb hiromeru, meaning to propagate. The name was also chosen because Hirome Shigeaki, a popular minister to the lord of Tosa during the Tokugawa period, is said to have lived in the same place.
Before returning to the ship, we will have time to enjoy some shopping at a local shopping centre.
Please Note: the order of the itinerary may vary. The bus ride depends on the order of the itinerary. Space is limited, therefore we strongly suggest that you book early. Due to the travel season in Japan, heavy traffic jams are expected. There is no time/nowhere to exchange money; having Japanese yen in advance is strongly recommended. A clear view of the landscape is subject to weather conditions. Wear flat, comfortable walking shoes.
